Privacy Policy

BillingBlox is a free, browser-based tool operated by Chargefield Inc. ("Chargefield", "we", "us"), a company based in Ontario, Canada. This policy explains what information BillingBlox handles when you use it at billingblox.chargefield.com. In short, it's built to keep your work on your own device wherever possible.
The short version
BillingBlox runs entirely in your browser. The billing block you build - cast and crew names, the opening line, the copyright line, and your spacing, colour and alignment settings - along with any logo images you upload, is processed on your device and is never sent to or stored on our servers. We use Google Analytics to understand general, aggregated usage. Beyond that, your content only leaves your browser if you choose to email yourself a save link - which sends just your email address and the link (holding your text and layout, never your logos) so we can deliver it. You can optionally join our newsletter from that same dialog, which shares with us your email address.
Information you create in the app
Everything you enter in BillingBlox - credits, the opening line, the legal / copyright line, and layout settings - lives only in your browser's memory while the page is open. We have no server that stores this content, and we cannot see it. Refreshing or closing the tab clears it, unless you have saved a link (see below).
Logos and images you upload
Logo files you add are read and rendered entirely in your browser - they are never uploaded to us or to any third party. SVG files are sanitised in your browser (using an open-source library called DOMPurify) to strip out any scripts and external references before they are shown or exported, so an uploaded logo cannot run code or load remote content. Logos are not included in save links and are discarded when you close the tab.
Saving and emailing a link
When you use Save, BillingBlox encodes your text and layout (but not your logos) into a link and emails it to the address you enter. Delivery is handled by EmailJS, an established third-party email service who state in their privacy policy that they have "no technical means to access the content of your information, emails, and files," keep all data encrypted, comply with the GDPR, and never sell, share or rent your information. We hand EmailJS only your email address and the link, over a secure connection, to send that one message - and Chargefield keeps no copy on our side. The link itself carries your text and layout in the portion after the "#", which browsers never send to a server, so re-opening it rebuilds your work right in your browser rather than fetching it from us.
Newsletter (optional)
The Save dialog includes an optional newsletter checkbox. If you leave it ticked when you email yourself a save link, your email address is also added to the Chargefield and BillingBlox mailing list, handled by Mailchimp. Only your email address is shared with the newsletter - never your billing block, credits or logos. Untick the box to get your link without joining, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email.
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how BillingBlox is used - for example page views, approximate region (derived from IP address), device and browser type, and general interaction patterns. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes this information on our behalf to help us improve the tool. This data is aggregated, is not used to personally identify you, and never includes the credits, logos or layout you create. You can block it using your browser settings, a tracker-blocking extension, or Google's official opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Third-party services
To run, BillingBlox loads a few third-party services and open-source libraries. By the nature of the web, these receive your IP address and basic request details when your browser contacts them:
- Google Analytics - usage analytics.
- Google Fonts - the fonts used in the interface and billing block.
- EmailJS - only when you email yourself a save link.
- Mailchimp - only if you opt into the newsletter.
- jsDelivr and Cloudflare (cdnjs) - content-delivery networks that serve the open-source libraries used for spreadsheet import, SVG sanitising and text outlining.
- Vercel - our hosting provider, which serves the site and keeps standard server logs.
Each of these operates under its own privacy policy.
Data retention
Because your billing-block content and logos are never stored on our servers, we have nothing of yours to retain or delete on the app side. A save link exists only for as long as you keep the link. Analytics data is held according to Google Analytics' standard retention settings. If you email yourself a link or join the newsletter, EmailJS and Mailchimp retain that email information under their own policies; you can ask us to remove you from the newsletter at any time.
Your privacy rights
BillingBlox is operated from Ontario, Canada, and we handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). The only personal information we may hold is an email address you provide for a save link or the newsletter. You can ask us to access, correct or delete that information by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under other laws such as the EU / UK GDPR or California's CCPA.
Children
BillingBlox is a professional design tool intended for general audiences. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as BillingBlox evolves. Any material change will be reflected here, with an updated date at the top.
